Certain groups, including veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, people living in rural areas, and those working in high-stress jobs like mining and construction, face higher suicide rates.

Major depression and suicidal thoughts can make reaching out incredibly difficult for the person going through this period in their life, but it is a vital step toward healing. People going through these struggles need to know that they do not have to go through this alone. Encourage them to share their feelings with someone they trust, even if it’s a small part of what they’re going through. If talking is a challenge, offer the option of writing things down on paper and/or provide them with a neutral resource, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Taking this step is a powerful act of courage, and it can make all the difference. Life is valuable, and there is hope for a brighter future.
Be aware and take care of yourself as well as those around you.
